The Salvation Army Kaneohe Corps Delivers Food Baskets in East Oahu
The Salvation Army Kaneohe Corps is now providing COVID-19 relief services in addition to its weekly drive-through food pantry.
“The relief services will include delivering food baskets to kupuna and others without transportation in the East Oahu area,” explains Salvation Army Kaneohe Corps Officer Lieutenant Aaron Ruff.
Deliveries will occur every Thursday, spanning from Waimanalo to Laie. Beneficiaries include kupuna living in senior living communities, as well as families without transportation who live in state public housing projects, among others. Each food basket — which contains meats, canned goods, snacks, starches and more — will provide families with three to five days of meals. “Every food basket is custom prepared with each specific family in mind,” Ruff explains. “For example, if the family is vegetarian, the staff and volunteers prepare their basket with vegetarian food. For families who are homeless or those who don’t have the means to cook food, their food basket will contain pop-top canned foods and ready-to-eat foods.”
Each food basket is personalized by volunteers, then loaded into a cargo van. The Salvation Army Kaneohe Corps officers and volunteers then hand deliver the baskets to each home or community.
